Shout Out: NatGeo Adventure + G4TV

We just wanted to shout out to the production management team (writers, hosts, financiers, executives, etc.) of G4TV and NatGeo Adventure. We guess we're just playing to our demographic, but seriously - good job guys. At the moment - we're really loving Ewan McGregor's Long Way Down on NatGeo Adventure (which is airing just now here in Southeast Asia) and G4TV's Attack of the Show (that funny buddy chemistry between co-hosts Kevin Pereira and Olivia Munn is just amazing to watch). And don't you hate it that you have all these options / opportunities to follow the latest reports from major press rss feeds (think reuters, iht, nyt, wsj, etc) but just don't have the time to sort through the clutter? It's good to have editors like the bloggers at G4TV to sort the best of press reports and give us somethign to follow. Check it out. And since we're on the subject, check out their referral to Wired Magazine's interview with Japan's current internet "badboy" Hiroyuki Nishimura who invented a youtube like service where people (with no censure) can post comments to a video as a layer on the actual video. Brilliant! As his success proves - it pays to be concise or creative (at least when you comment on video footage). Haha. But would youtube and father Google have the last laugh?

This Small Business Web Thing

Lately, I've taken an interest in Homestead's "singing" CEO Justin Kitch. Check out what he has to say about joining forces with Intuit which is a subject I am monitoring with great curiosity. As an entrepreneur, I follow the chorus of many pundits who point out that whoever makes it easier for small organizations and companies to work and collaborate will win in web2.x.  Loving the quote "it's easier to grow millions of dollars in revenue by 100% than billions of dollars by 5%". Haha.

IHT Profiles Mukesh Ambani

I've taken a great interest in what Mukesh Ambani and the folks at Reliance Industries are up to. I find it personally inspiring to find Asia's current wealthiest man to emerge from one of the most difficult of situations and environments in the continent.

Yesterday, the International Herald Tribune published an interesting profile of this man who is now touted as India's new Mohatmas Gandhi; the contrast in their perspectives and life stories do not limit the fact that Ambani is in a position to bring positive change to his nation.

It's the first I've come to know more about his personal circumstance (my knowledge has been mostly limited to news coverage of his 70 million dollar private residential tower). The article revealed his middle class / mercantile upbringing and the importance of his father; it made me think about my own youth which I realized years ago; my own middle class upbringing was founded very deeply in corporate management and marketing work as I spent many days as a boy and teenager tailing my father around in his marketing management jobs. I realized that my first ingress came when I was in the 5th grade when I started tailing my father at his events.

Certainly, for all of the challenges that the India of Ambani's youth presented; something is to be said about the leverage offered by its large population and the fruits of its government's decades long focused effort on building a strong engineering inclined workforce. Fast track to present day Philippines and I ask myself - is the situation young Filipino entrepreneurs face today any more difficult? Such a question is too tall to be answered by but a humble entrepreneur; but I'd like to think that we can take a cue at what Mr. Ambeshi has done. I look ahead and hope that we can also be as successful and as inspiring as Reliance has been; when the time comes, I hope that Yeaps and our subsidiaries can become truly valuable contributors to Philippine and Southeast Asian and perhaps even Global society.

The article is here.
